My Kili Story: Hard!!! The guides were taking good care of us. We had plenty of good food. But still it’s difficult to adjust to the altitude (difficulty to eat and sleep) and the summit day was very very long. I could do it again but in 7 or 8 days for a better acclimatization.

My Kili Story: Our Kilimanjaro trek was one the coolest, most memorable trips of my life. My wife & I met our guide David Thobias through a fellow traveler. David was incredible, well equipped, & experienced. He made the entire experience unforgettable. Before our hike David met myself, my wife & my two in-laws & showed us around Moshi, taking us to his family’s home in a nearby village where we were able to meet his extended family before exploring nearby highlights such as the great Chagga Caves. Before the trek David took us to his equipment shop where we picked out gear to borrow. He had a vast amount of equipment available & knew exactly what we would & wouldn't need. We were delighted to find that most of the trekking crew were family members of David. His father, 55, had hiked Kili countless times, was easy to talk to & a so kind hearted. While on the hike, we were woken each morning with a delivery of hot water & coffee to our tents. Water to rinse faces with. Hot coffee to warm our bodies. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable, describing local plants & their uses, animals we saw, & giving us the geological breakdown of the different biospheres we traveled through. They cooked three warm, plentiful, delicious meals daily that provided us with the nutrition & energy we would need. Our guides even managed to surprise us with a cake on my wife’s birthday! Our guides stressed to us the importance of hiking slowly- never to push too fast, but instead allowing us to adjust to the elevation & appreciate the surroundings. When it came time to summit, we were both physically & mentally ready for the challenge, it was a breeze. At the summit David had hot tea & cookies waiting for us to replenish our energy- the ONLY guide on the summit to do this!. The views over tea were awe inspiring. I I wouldn't change a thing about our hike & can’t be more appreciative of David & his family. I would recommend to everyone that loves the outdoors!
