Vaccinations for Tanzania

Recommended Vaccinations Regardless of your destination, the World Health Organization (www.who.int/en) recommends that all travellers be covered for the following:

• diphtheria

• tetanus

• measles

• mumps

• rubella

• polio

• hepatitis B

Recommended Vaccinations According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov), the following vaccinations are (also) recommended for Tanzania:

• hepatitis A

• hepatitis B

• rabies

• typhoid

• boosters for tetanus, diphtheria and measles

Is the Yellow Fever vaccination required for travel in Tanzania?

No (but sometimes yes) - A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is only required for travellers coming from - or who are in airport transit for more than 12 hours within a country with risk of Yellow Fever transmission.

What countries in have a risk of Yellow Fever?

• AFRICA - Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sudan, Togo, Uganda.

• AMERICAS - Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela.

Validity of a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate:

• Certificate is validity only if the vaccine has been approved by the WHO and if the vaccinating center has been designated by the health administration for the territory in which that center is situated.

• The international certificate of vaccination for yellow fever vaccine becomes valid 10 days after primary vaccination and remains valid for a period of 10 years.

• The certificate must be signed in his own hand by a medical practitioner or other person by the national health administration; his official stamp is not an accepted substitute for his signature.

• Any amendment of this certificate, or failure to complete any part of it, may render it in invalid.

• The certificate shall be fully completed in English or in French. The certificate may also be completed in another language on the same document, in addition to either English or French.
